Abstract

Maths is a powerful tool that opens doors to incredible careers, from space scientists exploring the universe to statisticians shaping public health policies. This collection of profiles showcases how people from across the UK with diverse backgrounds and different journeys—whether maths came easily or was a challenge—have achieved amazing things. Including responses to interview questions such as "what did you want to be when you were 10 years old?", "in which ways do you think your work is important or valuable?" and "who is the mathematical scientist you most admire, and why?", the collection aims to: provide relatable role models; challenge negative perceptions and stereotypes; demonstrate the value and importance of mathematical sciences to society; inspire the next generation of mathematical scientists; and champion excellence and celebrate diversity.
