Abstract

Battsagan is a Uriankhai who has taught mathematics for over thirty years in Chingel County, Altai Region. In this video, Battsagan discussed two main themes: history and culture. He explored in detail the seven Uriankhai banners of the Altai Region, including their origin and their distribution in the past and present. Meanwhile, the five new Torghut banners under Sheeren Noyan were another Mongolian ethnic population in the Altai region. These new Torghuts migrated westward to the Volga region when the Jungar Khanate was defeated by the Qing empire, and they returned to Xinjiang along with the main Torghuts. Hence, they were named the new Torghuts. The second theme Battsagan discussed is traditional cultural aspects. He interpreted the naming system of horses, each piece of the yurt and its meaning, and symbolism. Additionally, he discussed the culture of meat and bones, marriage rituals, and Tsagaan Sar.
