Abstract

This captivating video showcases Giimei’s skill with her Topshur instrument, a skill passed down from her mother when she was just thirteen years old. Giimei’s performance features five Topshur songs: “Hormoi”, “Savardan”, “Sain Judur”, and “Saihan Judur”. In addition to her proficiency in Torghut music, Giimei’s immersion in Kazakh communities enables her to effortlessly perform Kazakh songs on her Topshur, captivating audiences at various events, including wedding ceremonies, both within Kazakh and Mongol communities. Beyond her musical talents, Giimei shares insights into traditional Torghut attire, highlighting her own flamboyant Torghut dress purchased for ¥1800. She reflects on the evolving accessibility of such garments, noting that while expensive Torghut dresses were once a luxury, they are now more attainable for many. Giimei recalls a time when elders over fifty years old predominantly wore Torghut attire, while others donned simpler Mongolian dresses, indicating changing fashion trends and economic conditions.
