Scriptorium: Medieval and Early Modern Manuscripts Online

A three-year AHRC-funded project (2006-2009) on commonplace books and miscellanies from the fifteenth to eighteenth centuries. Producing a digital archive, research tools, and educational resources.

The official Scriptorium web site was launched on September 24th 2009 and features images and data from twenty manuscripts in libraries from Cambridge, London, and beyond; a revised version of EHOC: English Handwriting, an Online Course; information about our project and process; and a new resource, the Provenance Image Database.

These images, now available in higher-resolution formats owing to the continued support of the partner libraries, are now part of the Cambridge Digital Library. Also included are the detailed descriptions of the manuscripts, and other supporting information featured in the original Scriptorium site. Researchers interested in obtaining rights to re-use Scriptorium images should do so via Cambridge Digital Library.
