Abstract
A planning function is needed to coordina te the organization of higher education in three areas: - academic requirements - physical f ac ilities - economic programmes Within each of these three areas there is a need to ma ke pl anned change normal in an institution. Id eas for c a mpus growth or change can be ge nerated from a simula tion of academic goals limited by financ ial constraints. It is with the physi ca l planning we are concerned here. The study discusse s some of the major issues involved in the process of planning for higher education facilities in a developing country. The prime concern is to investigate various aspects of University Campus planning which ultimately influence the architectural solutions for contemporary University development in the Islami c-Arab Society of Saudi Arabia. The invest i gat ion in this thesis i s concentrated on case studies of four selected Universities in Saudi Arabiu.
