Description
Emblem for Guillaume La Perrière, Morosophie, Lyons, Macé Bonhomme, 1553. In his preface La Perrière stresses the ingenuity and wit that are required to produce a bilingual emblem book. The text reads: "Ingenium (Lector) saeva de morte triumphat, Cuius Apis currus ingeniosa vehit: Nusquam repit humi, quum sit sibi vita perennis, Non sinit Autores morte perire suos." (Talent, dear Reader, triumphs over death, whose car is pulled by the talented Bee. It crawls nowhere upon the ground, for it has life perennial; it does not allow its authors to die the death.)
