Abstract

Üzmee is one of the ecological migrants (shengtai yimin) from the countryside to the Ejine banner centre. As she says in the interview, when she first moved to the banner centre where she opened a food store which contained a small number of Mongolian books. However, no one read any of the books during the two years of operation; her migrant Torghut customers simply drank alcohol and reminisced about their past herding life. For this reason, she says that she and others made a joint effort in establishing a Malchidin Duulal Uralgin Bulhum (Art Association for Herders’ Singing) and organised a couple of performances. The brief performance appeared in the video is part of a winter holiday practice involving Torghut urtiin duu, topshur, Jangar and khoomei, etc.
