Abstract

This video is about the personal life story of Bayardalai, former magistrate of Jinghe county, Bortala Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture. Born and grew up in Toli (mirror) sum, which is called ‘81 Nongchang’ (81 Farm) in Chinese, he graduated from Xinjiang Normal University. He says he is proud of three achievements in his life: a professional herder, a competent cadre, and a good Torghtu urtiin duu singer. During the interview, he mentions many of his herding and hunting skills which cannot be found elsewhere. The Torghuts in Bortala have their own traditions and customs similar to those Torghuts in Bayangol and other places, but nowadays since the youngsters no longer care about them, their traditional culture is disappearing much faster than other places.
