Janjin Khüree in Khar Us

Change log

Abstract

This video is about a small Buddhist monastery in Salhit pasture of Khar Us. Janjin Khüree was destroyed in 1958, refurbished in 1988, and abandoned once again when another monastery was constructed adjacent to the old building. As the monastery played a significant role for the Torghuts in Khar Us, the local government installed surveillance equipment in and around the monastery. This development frightened the believers and deterred them from visiting the building. Eventually, the monastery became an empty building, completely losing its original function.
