Abstract
This paper for the first time demonstrates the feasibility of building a monolithically-integrated $64 \times 64$ SOA-based optical switch based on an modular architecture experimentally tested in an $8 \times 8$ SOA switch. Using parameters derived from experiment, simulation results show that such a $64 \times 64$ SOA switch has a power penalty as low as 1 dB.
