Description
High-resolution calibrated reflectance spectra (350-2500 nm) of samples of penguin guano, collected on Signy Island, Antarctica, between November 2014 and January 2015. Most samples are from Adélie penguins, though some Chinstrap and Gentoo penguins are also included. A few samples of penguin stomach contents, consisting of partially digested krill and fish, are also included. All samples have accompanying photographs. A peer-reviewed paper describing the data collection methods and interpretation of the results is currently under review.
Format
Spectra were generated from the output of the measuring instrument (ASD Fieldspec Pro) using simple programs running in the GNU Octave language. They were formatted as CSV using LibreOffice, but almost any spreadsheet program (e.g. Microsoft Excel) should be able to read the data.

The current recommendation prototype on the Apollo Repository will be turned off on 03 February 2023. Although the pilot has been fruitful for both parties, the service provider IKVA is focusing on horizon scanning products and so the recommender service can no longer be supported. We recognise the importance of recommender services in supporting research discovery and are evaluating offerings from other service providers.
