Description
Article Description:
The Drosophila melanogaster larval neuromuscular system is extensively used by researchers to study neuronal cell biology, and Drosophila glutamatergic motor neurons have become a major model system. There are two main Types of glutamatergic motor neurons, Ib and Is, with different structural and physiological properties at synaptic level at the neuromuscular junction. To generate genetic tools to identify and manipulate motor neurons of each Type, we screened for GAL4 driver lines for this purpose. Here we describe GAL4 drivers specific for examples of neurons within each Type, Ib or Is. These drivers showed high expression levels and were expressed in only few motor neurons, making them amenable tools for specific studies of both axonal and synapse biology in identified Type I motor neurons.
Dataset Description:
The supporting data includes microscopy images for each figure presented in the paper:
- Original Figures shown in the article, in both .ai and .pdf formats, which were made using Adobe Illustrator.
- Microscopy images for each figure: .nd2 files are the raw data collected with Nikon EZ- C1 acquisition software; .tif files, generated with Fiji from .nd2 files, are progressive steps in data processing.
Files are organized within folders and subfolders, ordered by Figure and Figure Panel. Within panels, subfolders contain progressive steps in data processing, from raw data to final figure panels. The data processing performed is described in the corresponding file name. For some Figures, we provide microscopy images from additional examples to those shown in the article.
All the information about each Figure can be found in the article “DOI: 10.1534/g3.118.200809” (open access).
Format
Windows OS Software: Nikon EZ-C1 acquisition software (for generating .nd2 files).
MAC OSX Software: Adobe Illustrator CC 2017 (to generate and open both .ai and .pdf files); Fiji (ImageJ 2.0.0-rc-68/1.52i) “https://downloads.imagej.net/fiji/latest/fiji-macosx.zip” (to open .nd2 files, and generate and open .tif files).
