Abstract
Excavations led by the late Geoffrey H. Cole revealed parts of an Iron Age and Romano-British settlement with significant evidence for Iron Age iron smelting. This report provides a summary account of the excavated sequence and an analysis and discussion of the iron-working evidence. It includes summaries of the other finds (pottery, querns and building material) as well as a discussion of an Iron Age coin. The discussion includes a reassessment of evidence for Iron Age iron production in the region and an assessment of the broader context of the site.
