Abstract

Novel holographic displays have been developed recently due to increased demand in 3D displays over the past few years. However, the research still faces the limitations of small field of view (FOV) and complex setups to build full-color reconstructions. A method to realize an extended full-color replay field display based on an off-axis holographic system with a single spatial-light-modulator (SLM) is proposed in this paper. The proposed system uses two controlled RGB laser sources, which are synchronized with ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) SLM of high switching speed, to double the size of the RGB color replay field. A 4f filtering system eliminates higher-order noise and conjugate images caused by binary phase modulation to get a clear reconstruction. The proposed system is low cost and uses a simple setup which are both important advantages for further commercialization of holographic displays.
